What is the secret to being able to concentrate on playing your instrument without all these distractions?

A tale of two musicians - both talented and enthusiastic. Both lead a band and like to use either sheet music or chord sheets depending on the song.

John looks out the music beforehand.He collects together all the music needed for all the songs he and the band are expected to play. He carefully transposes any chord sheets if the singer has told him in advance they can’t sing in that key. He makes photocopies for the other band members, or trusts them to bring their own copies which may or may not be the same version as his.
Just in case they have to throw in another song or two, John decides to bring along his large folder plus some extra music books.
He arrives at the venue and sets everything upHe makes sure the band has their music. They go over the songs – one of the pages has fallen out at home, he has to find a photocopier quick!
The band plays. The singer can’t reach some of the high notes so they have to mentally transpose as they play. John wanted the songs to flow together but the bass player got his pages mixed up and didn’t come in when he should. The acoustic guitarist played a different chord in the middle of the chorus because his sheet was different. The keyboard player had the music in the wrong order and played the intro to the wrong song ... (Sound familiar?)
John arrives home saying "There must be a better way ..."
